Don’t be so quick to throw out those stale bagels. Making homemade bagel chips is fast, easy and delicious!
From the recipe collection of Al Adente Diva
I never realized how incredible bagels in Jersey were until I left the state for college. I remember walking into a “New York” style bagel shop in Providence, Rhode Island and thinking after my first bite, “ehh, this is it?!”
With that in mind, bagels here are absolutely delicious. They’re just the right amount of doughy inside and chewy outside. The only downfall is that you gotta eat them fresh. After a day, sometimes even a few hours, they start to harden.
So what do you do if you get a few bagels over the weekend and miss the perfect bagel eating window?
Don’t you dare say throw them away or give them to the birds. These bagels are way too good for that. They deserve a second chance to be enjoyed.
And there’s no better way to do that than turning those stale bagels into homemade bagel chips.

Bagel Chips:
Homemade bagel chips are pretty self explanatory. They’re bagels that are sliced into rounds, lightly seasoned and baked into chips. People like to eat them with all kinds of dips. I actually think they go best with some softened flavored cream cheese but that’s just me.
Okay, so now that we know what a bagel chip is, let learn how to make them.
You’ll Need:
- Stale Bagels (any kind)
- Butter
- Salt, pepper & garlic powder
- Basting Brush
Here’s How To Do It:

Slice your bagel into thin rounds

Melt butter and season it with salt, pepper and garlic powder

Use a basting brush to put the butter on top of each bagel round

Bake in a 400° oven for about 5/6 minutes or unit the bagel rounds start to brown and crisp up.

Remove them from the cookie sheet, cool and enjoy!

These bagel chips couldn’t be easier to make. They’re a great way to make sure that your bagels don’t go to waste, too. If you haven’t had these yet, I really hope you give them a try
By the way, if you’re looking for something to serve along side these bagel chips, crispy oven baked bacon would be a great choice!
