Texas Toast Sloppy Joes are loaded with sweet and savory homemade sloppy joe filling, piled onto buttery garlic Texas toast, topped with melty cheddar cheese, and baked until golden and bubbly.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium high heat and add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté them with a little salt and pepper for 5 minutes or until the vegetables start to soften.
Add the ground beef and break it into small pieces while browning. Drain the excess fat if needed.
Once the beef is browned, add the tomato paste, tomato sauce, brown sugar and worcestershire sauce. Season it with salt, pepper and garlic powder and stir everything together. Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes.
Bake the Texas Toast for 5-6 minutes. Carefully push down the center of each piece of Texas Toast by using the back of a spoon. Evenly distribute the sloppy Joe filling into the center of each piece of Texas toast. Then top with shredded cheddar cheese.
Place them in the oven for about 5 minuters or until the cheese is melted. Let them cool slightly and garnish with chopped parsley (optional). Enjoy!
