Red velvet earthquake cake is a delicious mixture of flavors and textures that you’re guaranteed to fall in love with.

This cake is truly impossible not to love. I thought I hit the lottery with this Chocolate Earthquake Cake recipe.
Little did I know that this red velvet version would rival it. They are both absolutely incredible.

Also, very pretty to look at if I do say so myself. Just look at those gorgeous colors.
The cracks and creases of this cake mixed with the cream cheese swirl and melted chocolate chips make for an impressive appearance for sure.

Desserts like this that are super easy to put together and require very little effort are right up my alley.
I made this for my son’s play date and the boys couldn’t get enough of it.

It was a huge hit with them and everyone that I’ve made it for. It’s a must make!

Red Velvet Earthquake Cake Variations
I like this cake recipe made just the way it is but here are some ways to change it up if you’d like to.

- Nuts- chopped pecans or walnuts would both be ok to use here.
- Chocolate Chips- Dark, milk or white chocolate are all great choices for this.
- Cake Batter- Although this is a red velvet version of earthquake cake chocolate cake mix can be used also. ?

Red Velvet Earthquake Cake Ingredients

- Red Velvet Cake Mix (plus the ingredients to make it)
- Sweetened Coconut Flakes
- Chopped Walnuts
- Cream Cheese, room temperature
- Powdered Sugar
- Melted Butter
- Vanilla Extract
- Mini Milk or Dark Chocolate Chips
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°
First, spray a 9 x 13” baking dish with cooking spray.

Now, evenly sprinkle down a layer of sweetened coconut flakes.

Next, add a layer of the chopped walnuts on top.

Then, make the red velvet cake mix according to the directions on the back of the package.

Now, evenly pour the cake mix into the pan covering the coconut flakes and chopped walnuts.

Next, in a small bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, melted butter and vanilla extract.

Then, using a spoon, dollop the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake batter.

Now, using a butter knife, swirl the cream cheese mixture into the cake batter.

Next, sprinkle the top evenly with the chocolate chips.

Next, place it onto the center rack of the oven for 40-50 minutes or until the cake is cooked event through.

Finally, let the cake cool slightly, serve warm or room temperature and enjoy!
