Salsbury Steak Meatballs

From the recipe collection of Tara Ippolito

My goodness, these salsbury steak meatballs were out of this world good.

I made these for a quick and easy dinner for my family and they were a huge hit.

My mother used to make us traditional salsbury steak for my siblings and I all the time when we were growing up.

I loved it then and I love it now. There’s something so nostalgic about it for me.

This recipe is just like the traditional meal but made into easy to prepare meatballs.

The patties are great, too, don’t get me wrong. I just find that the meatballs are super easy to work with.

The gravy in this recipe takes this dish to the next level. I love to serve them over mashed potatoes to really soak up all the flavors.

This is an easy to make comfort food recipe that my entire family looks forward to. When my two picky little boys.

I hope you give this recipe a try. If you do, I know you’ll love it just as much as my family and I do.

Salsbury Steak Meatballs Variations

I like this meatball recipe made just the way it is but here are some ways to change it up if you’d like to.

  • Ground Meat- I prefer beef for this recipe but ground turkey would work, too.
  • Shaping- This recipe can easily be make into traditional Salisbury steaks by simply forming the patties into larger, flatter pieces and following the instructions the same way.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°

First, in a large bowl, add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, egg, fresh garlic, mustard and Worcestershire sauce.

Then, season it with salt and pepper and garlic powder and mix everything together just until it’s evenly combined.

Now, roll the mixture into even sized balls and place them onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

While that’s cooking, in a large skillet, sauté the chopped onion and mushrooms in a little olive oil until soft. Lightly season then with salt and pepper.

Then, whisk in the butter and flour for 2-3 minutes. It will make a thick paste.

Next, slowly whisk in the beef broth.

Now, stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and Kitchen Bouquet.

Then, season the gravy with salt, pepper and garlic powder and turn the heat down to a simmer. Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Now, add the cooked meatballs into the skillet and spoon the sauce over them.
