If you love egg rolls but don’t love the rolling, frying, and mess that comes with them, this Egg Roll in a Bowl is about to be your new favorite dinner. It’s quick, easy, and packed with all the classic egg roll flavor. It’s got savory meat, tender cabbage, garlic, ginger, and that irresistible soy and sesame finish. Everything cooks up in one pan in just under 30 minutes, which makes it perfect for busy weeknights.

Let’s be honest, the inside is always the best part of an egg roll anyway. This recipe gives you that flavorful filling front and center with no wrapper to get in the way. It’s lighter, faster, and satisfying when you want something simple and delicious.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious dinner. You can find the full ingredients list along with measurements and instructions on the recipe card below.

  • Ground Pork – Rich, savory base that gives the dish the classic egg roll flavor.
  • Coleslaw Mix – The bulk of the dish. It adds crunch and mimics the filling of a traditional egg roll.
  • Olive Oil – Helps sauté the pork and onion and prevents sticking.
  • Onion – Adds sweetness and depth as it cooks with the pork.
  • Garlic – Brings strong aromatic flavor that builds the savory base.
  • Salt – Enhances all the flavors in the dish.
  • Pepper – Adds mild heat and balance.
  • Garlic Powder – Reinforces the garlic flavor throughout the dish.
  • Soy Sauce – Provides salty flavor that makes the dish taste like classic takeout.
  • Rice Wine Vinegar – Adds brightness and a slight tang to balance the richness.
  • Sesame Oil – Gives a nutty, authentic Asian flavor.
  • Sugar – Balances the salty soy sauce and vinegar with a little sweetness.
  • Ginger – Adds warm, slightly spicy flavor typical of egg roll filling.
  • Green Onions – Fresh garnish that adds color and a mild onion bite.
  • Sesame Seeds – Final garnish that adds light crunch and nutty flavor.

How To Make It

Here’s how to make this amazing meal. You can find the full ingredients list along with instructions on the recipe card below.

First, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground pork and onion and cook until the pork is browned and the onion begins to soften. Stir in the garlic, salt, pepper, and garlic powder and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

PRO TIP: Let the ground pork sit on the skillet for a minute or two before stirring. It will brown and create a deeper flavor.

Now, add the coleslaw mix and stir everything together. Let it sauté for a couple of minutes so the cabbage begins to soften. Pour in the soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, and ginger.

PRO TIP: Don't overcrowd the pan because the cabbage will steam instead of sautéing.

Next, stir well and cook for another 1–2 minutes or until everything is combined and heated through. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Can I Use A Different Meat Instead Of Pork?

Yes, you can. Ground chicken, turkey, or even ground beef will work well. Pork gives the most classic egg roll flavor though.

Is This Recipe Low Carb Or Keto Friendly?

It can easily be made low carb because it skips the egg roll wrapper. If you’re watching carbs, you can reduce or omit the sugar and use a low sodium or low carb soy sauce alternative.

Storage

Let the egg roll in a bowl cool completely and place it into a food safe air tight container. It will last for up to three days. this freezes well, too! Just place it into a freezer safe air tight container and it will last for up to three months.
