This old fashioned meatloaf is just like grandma used to make using ground beef, sautéed vegetables, breadcrumbs and just a few other simple ingredients baked and finished with a ketchup and brown sugar glaze.

Old Fashioned Meatloaf

From the recipe collection of Tara Ippolito

This old fashioned meatloaf is such a classic family dinner recipe that the whole family will love.

Whenever I make this, it reminds me of being young and eating dinner at my grandmothers house.

She always used to make my siblings and I traditional, classic recipes like this one. We’d all look forward to eating there because we knew we’d get something great to eat.

Like a big plate of meatloaf with Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes and peas and carrots on the side.

There are so many different versions of meatloaf to choose from now but I always find my way back to this one.

After all the classics are the classics for a reasons right?

Now that I’m a mother myself, I make this for my own family and they love it just like I used to.

I usually serve this in the fall and winter months when the weather starts to cool down here in Jersey and kids are back in school.

It’s a wonderful recipe for a busy weekday dinner because it’s super easy to put together and it’s always a guaranteed hit. Even my who picky little boys love this one.

I hope you give this recipe a try. If you do, I know you’ll love it just as much as my family and I do. ?

I like this recipe for meatloaf made just the way it is, but here are some ways to change it up if you’d like to.

  • Meat- you can use ground turkey or chicken if you’d prefer to.
  • Vegetables- Add any sautéed vegetables that you’d like to the meatloaf mixture like carrots, mushrooms or celery.
  • Glaze- This is a basic meatloaf recipe but glaze/ topping options are endless. Pick your favorite.

Next, place the meatloaf back into the oven for an additional 15- 20 minutes.

Finally, let it cool slightly, sprinkle with fresh parsley (optional), slice and enjoy.
