How To Make It
Heres how to make this delicious dinner. You can find the full ingredients list along with instructions on the recipe card below.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery and sauté for about 2–3 minutes, or until they begin to soften. Add the minced garlic and satue for an additional minute. Sprinkle in the flour and stir it into the butter and vegetables. Cook for about 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking continuously. Continue cooking and whisking for about 3 minutes, or until the sauce is smooth and has begun to thicken. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, garlic powder and chicken bouillon. Stir until everything is well combined. Reduce the heat to low and add the diced rotisserie chicken, heavy cream, sour cream and drained green beans. Stir everything together until evenly combined and warmed through, about 2–3 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat.
- In a medium bowl, add the Stove Top Savory Herbs Stuffing Mix, water and melted butter. Stir until combined and let the mixture sit for about 2 minutes so the stuffing can begin absorbing the liquid. Evenly spread the prepared stuffing over the top of the chicken mixture. Place the uncovered skillet into the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the filling is hot and bubbly and the stuffing is lightly golden on top. Carefully remove the skillet from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Pro Tips
- Be sure to use an oven-safe skillet since the entire pan will go directly from the stovetop into the oven.
- Slowly add the chicken broth while whisking to keep the sauce smooth and prevent lumps.
- Drain the green beans very well so they don’t add unnecessary liquid to the sauce.
- Don’t skip cooking the flour for a minute or two before adding the broth. This removes the raw flour taste.
- If you’d like the stuffing a little crispier and more golden, broil the skillet for the last 1–2 minutes. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn.
- Let the skillet rest for about 5 minutes after baking so the creamy filling can thicken slightly before serving.
Variations
- Use Different Vegetables – Swap the green beans for frozen peas, carrots, corn or a combination of your favorites.
- Use Turkey – Leftover cooked turkey works perfectly in place of the rotisserie chicken, making this a great recipe for Thanksgiving leftovers.
- Change the Stuffing – Another flavor of boxed stuffing can easily be substituted for the savory herbs variety.
- Add Cheese – Sprinkle some freshly shredded cheddar over the chicken mixture before adding the stuffing for an extra cheesy version.
What to Serve With It
This is already a pretty complete meal with chicken, green beans and stuffing all in one skillet. If you’d like something on the side, serve it with a simple salad, roasted vegetables, cranberry sauce or warm dinner rolls.
Can I Make This Ahead Of Time?
Yes. Prepare the creamy chicken mixture and place it in the skillet or baking dish. Prepare the stuffing separately and refrigerate both until you’re ready to bake. Add the stuffing to the top just before baking and allow a little extra baking time since the filling will be cold.
Storage & Reheating
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave until warmed through, or place leftovers in an oven-safe dish, cover loosely with foil and warm at 350°F until heated through.
To freeze, let the chicken and stuffing skillet cool completely, then transfer it to a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating. Keep in mind that the stuffing may be a little softer after freezing and reheating.
