The best tartar sauce is made with mayonnaise, pickles, dill and just a few other simple ingredients for a delicious condiment.

The Best Tartar Sauce

From the recipe collection of Tara Ippolito

Isn’t tartar sauce just the best? There’s nothing better then this creamy cool sauce with some fried food. Yum!

I always order extra tartar sauce on my fish filets from McDonald’s. There’s a good chance that’s my favorite sandwich strictly because of the sauce.

I truly can't get enough and to be honest, I never feel like they give you enough either.

Thats one of the reasons why knowing how to make it at home can come in so handy. Especially once you know just how easy it is to make, too.

There’s not much that goes into making it at all and most of the ingredients you probably have in your refrigerator and pantry right now.

I love this on fried fish or any kind of fish cake recipe that I try at home. A good tartar sauce can really make or break the meal.

The flavor is so unique that it can kinda go with anything you want, though. My family even loves it with French fries. So, feel free to experiment with trying it on different things.

I hope you give this recipe a try. If you do, I know you'll love it just as much as my family and I do.

The Best Tartar Sauce Variations

I like this recipe made just the way it is, but here are some ways to change it up if you'd like to.

  • Pickles- Dill pickles are the best of this but you can use relish, too. Just be aware that the relish is a little more "watery" and will thin the sauce out just a bit.
  • Mayonnaise- Any brand of real mayonnaise would be ok to use. Just be sure to avoid Miracle Whip. It's too tangy and will throw off the taste a bit too much.
  • Dill- Fresh or dried dill both work wonderfully in this recipe.

What Can I Use The Best Tartar Sauce On?

This sauce is wonderful on just about anything, but here are some recipes that I absolutely love it on.

  • Crispy Fried Shrimp
  • Canned Tuna Cakes
  • Easy Salmon Cakes
  • The Best Crab Cakes

The Best Tartar Sauce Ingredients:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Dill, dry
  • Onion, minced
  • Pickles, minced
  • Lemon
  • Salt & pepper
  • Sugar

Instructions:

First, add your mayonnaise to a medium sized bowl.

Then, add the dill and sugar.

Next, add the minced onion and lemon juice.

Then, add the chopped pickles, salt and pepper.

Now, stir everything together until it’s evenly combined.

After that, place the bowl in the fridge for 2- 24 hours before using to let those flavors marinate.

Lastly, stir the tartar sauce one more time before serving chilled. Enjoy!

Yes I’m wondering if 2 Tablespoons is correct for the dill as well. Seemed like a lot and mine is way more “dilly” than yours!
