Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows is a delicious and super easy to make side dish that’s a holiday must have.

Everyone goes crazy for this recipe whenever I make it for special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

It’s become a staple and tradition that we all look forward to. It goes perfectly with just about any main course, too.

I’ve tried out a bunch of sweet potato recipes that include marshmallows and this one is by far the best one.

It’s just the right amount of sweet and the marshmallows are toasted perfectly.

My kids are huge fans of this one and it’s always the first side dish they go for during the holidays.

And I don’t blame them one bit. Not only is this incredibly good, but it’s also super easy to make, too.

Don’t feel like you’d have to wait for the holidays to enjoy this. It’s an amazing side dish choice all year round.

Sweet Potato Casserole Variations

I like this recipe for sweet potato casserole made just the way it is, but here are some ways to change it up if you’d like to.

  • Sweet Potatoes- fresh sweet potatoes are preferred but canned would work, too. You van also boil the sweet potatoes until fork tender instead of roasting but distinct them is highly recommended. It brings out their natural sweetness that way.
  • Topping- add a layer of pecans or brown sugar to the sweet potatoes before the marshmallow layer.
  • Syrup- Brown sugar can be substituted for maple syrup.

Sweet Potato Casserole With Marshmallows Ingredients

  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Maple Syrup
  • Stick of Butter, melted
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°

First, place the sweet potatoes on a parchment paper lined baking dish and place them into the oven for one hour to roast.

Next, let them cool slightly, remove the skin and add them to a large bowl.

Then, add the syrup, melted butter, cinnamon and pinch of salt.

Now, mash the sweet potatoes and ingredients together until it reaches a consistency you like.

Next, add the sweet potato mixture to a sprayed 9 x 13” baking dish and spread them out so they are flat and even.

Then, add the bag of mini marshmallows to the top and gently press them down into the sweet potatoes.

Now, place it into the oven, in the middle rack, for about 10-20 minutes. That’s a wide range of time but very oven is different and the marshmallows can go from toasted to burnt very quickly. Please keep an eye on them.

Finally, let them cool slightly and enjoy!

  • 5-6 Sweet Potatoes
  • ⅓ cup Maple Syrup
  • 1 stick Butter, melted
  • 1 tbs Cinnamon
  • 10 oz Mini Marshmallows
  • Pinch of Salt
