Crockpot French Onion Meatloaf is made with ground beef, Lipton Onion Soup Packets and just a few other simple ingredients for a hassle free dinner the whole family will love.

From the recipe collection of Tara Ippolito

Crockpot French onion meatloaf is an absolutely delicious, hassle free dinner that the whole family is sure to love. I’m always looking for recipes that are good for busy week nights and this one is perfect. My family loves meatloaf but sometimes I just don’t have the time babysit the oven when I’m rushing the kinds from one after school activity to the next.

This recipe lets the crockpot do most of the work for me. I can do the prep in the morning then come home later that day to dinner being ready. It doesn’t get more convenient than that. Crockpots are the biggest time savers ever.

It’s always so moist and flavorful with the most delicious glaze on top. I love what the dry Lipton soup packets bring to it. This meatloaf goes great with whatever sides you’d like to choose but we love to eat this with a nice big side of Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes and Roasted Green Beans. My family loves when I make this this for them and it’s a personal favorite of mine, too. I hope you give this recipe a try. If you do, I know you’ll love it just as much as my family and I do.

Ingredients

Heres everything you'll need to make this delicious crockpot meatloaf. You can find the full ingredients list along with measurements and instructions on the recipe card below.

  • Ground Beef- The base of the meatloaf! Provides protein, structure and richness.
  • Lipton Onion Soup Packets- A shortcut to the classic french onion seasoning without needed to add lots of spices.
  • Eggs- Binds the ingredients together.
  • Onion- Gives it a classic french onion taste.
  • Milk- Keeps the meatloaf tender and juicy.
  • Ritz Crackers- Absorbs juices and prevents the meatloaf from becoming too dense or mushy.
  • Ketchup- Adds a bit of tang that balances the french onion flavors. I use Heinz
  • Brown Sugar- Caramelizes the top giving it a nice glaze and color. I use Domino
  • Worcestershire Sauce- Enhances the flavor of the beef. I use Lea & Perrin.
  • Salt- Enhances the flavor of the other ingredients
  • Pepper- Cuts the richness of the meatloaf
  • Garlic Powder- Adds a garlicy flavor throughout the meatloaf. I use Mcccormick
  • Fresh Parsley- An optional garnish that adds a pop of color to the meatloaf.

Instructions

Heres how to make this delicious dinner. You can find the full ingredients list along with measurements and instructions on the recipe card below.

First, in a large bowl, add the ground beef, eggs, Lipton Onion Soup Packets, diced onion, milk, ketchup and crushed Ritz Crackers. Season it and mix everything together just until it’s evenly combined.

NOTE: Breadcrumbs can be used in replacement of the Ritz Crackers if needed.

PRO TIP: Be careful not to over work the meat or the meatloaf will become too dense.

Then, line a crockpot with two layers of aluminum foil and gently place the meatloaf on top of the foil. In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Evenly spread the sauce over the top of the meatloaf.

PRO TIP: The foil is placed down to make the meatloaf easy to remove later.

Next, close the crockpot lid and place it on low for 6 hours. Carefully lift the aluminum foil, leaving the liquid that has accumulated at the bottom, and place it onto a cutting board. Slide the meatloaf off of the foil and let it sit for 5 minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley (optional) and enjoy!

PRO TIP: Let the meatloaf rest to allow the juices to settle before slicing.

Can I Make This In The Oven Instead?

Yes, this can be made in the oven for sure. Just shape the meatloaf into a loaf pan or baking dish and place it into the center rack of the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Can I Make This Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can assemble the meatloaf, cover it and place it into the refrigerator for 24 hours in advance.

What Can I Serve This With?

This meatloaf is delicious with some Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes, any vegetable like Roasted Garlic Parmesan Broccoli and dinner rolls.

Storage

let the meatloaf cool completely and place it into an air tight container. It will last in the refrigerator for up to three days. This freezes well, too. Just place the meatloaf into a freezer safe air tight container and it will last for up to three months.

Thank you! I bet it would be great in the oven. Over mixing can def cause a dense meatloaf too. I’m not sure if you maybe over sized it or not. Just figured id mention it! I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much.

Thank you for this fabulous recipe. It's definately the best tasting meatloaf I've ever made, and the only one I will be making from now on. Mine came out a little dense, but it still was delicious. I'm thinking i could remove from crockpot b4 the 6 hrs. suggested. Just curious, would it still be as great if made in the oven?

Nope no error on my party. If you’re sensitive to salt just use one packet

Seems like an awful lot of onion soup mix, 2 pks, plus extra onión. Plus, all the sodium?
I make by meatloaf with 1 pk and it's plenty of flavor.
Was this an error in recipie?

I have never made a meatloaf before..I think I may have overworked the meat a little... will I have to cook it longer or will it ruin the taste??
