There are certain dinners that just work in every home. Theres no stress, no overthinking, just something you know your family is going to devour. This is one of those recipes! I can throw it together on bust weeknight when I want something comforting but don’t feel like standing at the stove all night.

The best part of this recipe is how foolproof it is. You’re basically just layering seasoned chicken, cheese, and that rich sour cream mixture that turns into the most incredible topping as it bakes. My family goes crazy for this one, and honestly, so do I. It’s cozy, it’s cheesy, and one of those recipes you’ll keep coming back to again and again.

Ingredients

Here’s everything you’ll need to make this delicious chicken dinner. You can find the full ingredients list along with measurements and instructions on the recipe card below.

  • Chicken Breasts- The base of the dish! It's juicy, tender, and perfect for soaking up all that creamy flavor.
  • Sour Cream- The star of the topping! It adds richness, tang, and keeps everything moist while baking.
  • Mozzarella Cheese- Melts into a gooey layer over the chicken for that classic cheesy pull.
  • Parmesan Cheese- Adds a salty, nutty flavor and helps create a slightly golden, savory crust on top.
  • Italian Seasoning- Brings that herby, comforting flavor that ties everything together.
  • Garlic Powder- Adds deep, savory flavor throughout the dish.
  • Onion Powder- Gives a subtle sweetness and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Salt & Pepper: Essential for bringing out all the flavors in both the chicken and the topping.
  • Fresh Parsley - An Optional garnish that adds a pop of color and freshness.

How To Make It

Here’s how to make this delicious meal. You can find the full ingredients list along with instructions on the recipe card below.

Preheat your oven to 375°F

First, season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder and place it side by side in a greased 9 x 13" baking dish. Add slices of mozzarella cheese directly on top of each piece of chicken.

PRO TIP: Pound the chicken breast a little to make them more uniform in thickens so they all cook evenly at the same time

NOTE: Don't skimp seasoning the chicken. Thats how flavor is built in layers for maximum results

Now, in a bowl, mix together the sour cream, grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined. Spread the sour cream mixture evenly over the mozzarella topped chicken and sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top.

PRO TIP: Use freshly grated parmesan cheese if possible, it will melt much better that way.

Then, place it into the center rack of the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the chicken is cooked through and the top is hot and bubbly with a light golden. Let it rest for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley and enjoy!

PRO TIP: Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes so the sauce can thicken up and set.
