How To Make It
Here is everything you’ll need to make this delicious crockpot dinner. You can find the full ingredients list along with measurements and instructions on the recipe card below.
- Add the stew meat and baby potatoes to the crockpot. Season everything with salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Add the dry onion soup mix and freshly chopped garlic. Toss everything together until the beef and potatoes are evenly coated in the seasonings.

- Place the butter directly on top. Cover the crockpot and cook on HIGH for about 6 hours, or until the beef is fork tender and the potatoes are cooked through. Give everything a good stir before serving so the beef and potatoes get coated in the buttery juices at the bottom of the crockpot.

Pro Tips
- Keep the potatoes small. Baby potatoes are ideal because they can cook right alongside the beef without needing much prep. If yours are larger, cut them in half.
- Don’t skip those juices. Give everything a really good toss before serving so that buttery, garlicky liquid gets all over the beef and potatoes.
- Check the beef for tenderness. Crockpots can vary, so the beef is ready when it easily pulls apart with a fork.
Variations
- Add vegetables. Carrots or mushrooms would be easy additions if you want to bulk up the meal.
- Try different potatoes. Baby gold or baby red potatoes would both work beautifully.
Storage & Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm everything slowly in a covered skillet until heated through.
The beef can also be frozen for up to 3 months. The potatoes can be frozen too, but keep in mind that their texture may become a little softer once thawed and reheated.
