I love a good takeout inspired dinner that I can make right at home, and this one is so easy. The chicken gets coated in cornstarch and pan fried until it's nice and golden brown before getting tossed in a simple honey garlic sauce.
The best part is adding the lo mein noodles right into the skillet so they soak up all that delicious sauce. Everything comes together in one pan (besides boiling the noodles), and it's a great option for a quick weeknight dinner.
Why You'll Love It
- Easy To Make: Everything comes together in about 30 minutes using simple ingredients.
- Better Than Takeout: You get all those delicious sweet and savory flavors without having to order in.
- Perfectly Saucy: There's plenty of honey garlic sauce to coat both the chicken and noodles.
- Family Friendly: The sweet honey garlic flavor is something both kids and adults will love.
Ingredients
Here is everything you’ll need to make this delicious recipe. You can find the full ingredients list along with measurements and instructions on the recipe card below.
- Chicken Thighs – Adds protein and stays juicy while cooking.
- Salt and Pepper – Used to season the chicken before cooking.
- Garlic Powder – Adds extra garlic flavor to the chicken.
- Onion Powder – Gives the chicken another layer of savory flavor.
- Cornstarch – Coats the chicken and helps give it a lightly crispy, golden brown exterior. It also helps thicken the sauce.
- Oil – Used to pan fry the chicken until it's golden brown and cooked through.
- Low Sodium Soy Sauce – The savory base of the sauce. Using low sodium soy sauce helps balance out the sweetness of the honey.
- Honey – Adds sweetness and gives the sauce that delicious sticky texture.
- Garlic – Freshly minced garlic adds lots of flavor to the sauce.
- Lo Mein Noodles – Perfect for soaking up all that delicious honey garlic sauce.
How To Make It
Here’s how to make this amazing recipe you can find the full ingredients list along with instructions on the recipe card below.
- Cut the chicken thighs into small, bite sized pieces and add them to a large bowl. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the cornstarch and toss everything together until the chicken is evenly coated. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the chicken and cook, turning occasionally, until it's golden brown on all sides and cooked all the way through.

- Lower the heat to medium low and add the soy sauce, honey and freshly minced garlic. Stir everything together and let the sauce simmer gently for a couple of minutes until it starts to thicken slightly and coat the chicken.

- Add the cooked noodles directly to the skillet with the chicken and sauce. Toss everything together until the noodles are completely coated in the honey garlic sauce. Let everything cook together for another minute and serve warm.

Pro Tips
- Cut the chicken into even pieces: This helps everything cook at the same time and keeps the chicken tender.
- Don't overcrowd the skillet: Cook the chicken in batches if necessary so it gets a nice golden brown color instead of steaming.
- Use low sodium soy sauce: Since this recipe uses a generous amount of sauce, low-sodium soy sauce keeps it from becoming too salty.
- Don't overcook the noodles: Cook them just until tender because they'll continue cooking a little when you toss them in the skillet.
- Adjust the sauce if needed: If the sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water to loosen it up before serving.
Variations
- Add vegetables: Broccoli, snap peas, carrots, or bell peppers would all be delicious additions.
- Use chicken breast: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work just as well as chicken thighs.
- Make it spicy: Add some crushed red pepper flakes, chili garlic sauce, or sriracha for a little heat.
- Switch up the noodles: Spaghetti, ramen, or rice noodles can be used instead of lo mein.
- Add a garnish: Finish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds for a little extra flavor and texture.
What To Serve With It
This is a complete meal on its own, but broccoli, sautéed green beans, or a simple Asian inspired cucumber salad would all go nicely with it.
Can This Be Made Ahead Of Time?
Yes! You can prepare the chicken and sauce ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator. When you're ready to eat, cook the noodles and toss everything together in a skillet until heated through.
Storage & Reheating
Store leftover honey garlic chicken and noodles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.
To reheat, add the chicken and noodles to a skillet over medium low heat with a splash of water to loosen the sauce. Stir occasionally until everything is heated through.
You can also microwave individual portions in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until warmed through.
Freezing: You can freeze this dish in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. However, the noodles may become softer after thawing, so I recommend enjoying this recipe fresh or refrigerated whenever possible.
