There are so many amazing flavors in this citrus marinated skirt steak recipe. It’s one of my favorites that I make it often. This marinade recipe is so easy to put together, too. The flavor is incredibly unique and delicious. Skirt Steak can be so flavorful if it’s done the right way.
I’m always looking for new recipes to try and this one is loaded with tons of fresh flavors. The citrus ingredients here really help to tenderize the meat, too. This is a great option to thrown on the grill for all those summer BBQ's.

- Garlic- Adds fresh, homemade flavor.
- Soy Sauce- Brings a much needed dose of salt that cuts the acidity of the fruit.
- Orange Juice - Adds a pop of bold acidity
- Black Pepper- Adds a subtle heat.
- Garlic Powder- Brings an earthy garlic flavor throughout.
- Oregano- Adds fresh herby flavor.
- Cumin- Adds a subtle smokey heat.
- Onions- Brings an earthy, semi sweetness.
- Olive Oil- Helps blend all the ingredients.
- Red Wine Vinegar- Adds a briney bright flavor.
- Lime Juice & Lime zest- Brings another layer of bold acidity
- Fresh Parsley- Adds a fresh pop of flavor
How To Make It
Heres how to make this delicious skirt steak marinade. You can find the full ingredients list along with instructions on the recipe card below.
In a large bowl or zip lock, combine the garlic, soy sauce, orange juice, black pepper, garlic powder, oregano, cumin, olive oil, red wine vinegar, lime juice, lime zest and parsley. Then add the sliced onion and skirt steak and toss them into the marinade. Cover and place it into the refrigerator from 4 hours up to overnight.
PRO TIP: If you have the time, try to let the steak marinate for as long as possible. You'll get a lot more flavor out of it.

Drain the steak from the marinade and grill/cook it however you'd like. Serve warm & enjoy.
PRO TIP: Drain the steak from the marinade as best as you can to make sure you can get a really nice char on it.

Do I Have To Use Skirt Steak?
No, skirt steak holds onto marinades very well but flank steak, hanger, sirloin and flat iron would all work well, too.
Storage
Place the marinade in a food safe air tight container and it will last in the fridge for up to three days.

Citrus Marinated Skirt Steak Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 Pounds Skirt Steak
- 4 Tbs Soy Sauce
- ⅓ Cup Fresh Orange Juice
- Pepper to taste
- 3 Tbs Olive Oil
- 1 Tbs Garlic Powder
- ¼ Cup Red Wine Vinegar
- 4 Cloves Garlic, minced
- ¼ Cup Parsley, fresh
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 Tbs Cumin
- 1 Large Lime, juiced
- 1 Large Lime, zested
- 1 large Onion, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the garlic, soy sauce, orange juice, black pepper, garlic powder, oregano, cumin, olive oil, red wine vinegar, lime juice, lime zest and parsley.

So good! Made this with fresh squeezed orange juice and half a red onion, because that’s what we had. Grilled the steak to med-rare/rare and sautéed the marinated onion. Super yummy!
